INFO:
The “Helping Those Who Help Others” contest was designed by The Home Depot and ABC Radio Networks in conjunction with REACH Media Inc. to recognize and reciprocate the good works of community organizations. The contest challenged applicants to write essays nominating notable organizations in their local communities.

Evelyn McKeown, of the Jim Fisher Development Center, wrote the winning essay describing the various after-school and arts enrichment programs that the Center offers to children in the Southside Chicago area. The Jim Fisher Development Center was selected from over 800 submissions to receive $75,000 towards The Home Depot renovation of their center.

The Jim Fisher Development Center was opened in 1999, as a ministry of St. Anselm Church, to reach out to children within the community. The Center’s mission is to create an atmosphere filled with art and culture to keep children off of the city streets. The Center provides after-school and summer programs teaching poetry, music, art and African dance. The Center has served more than 1,000 children from Chicago’s inner city.
