- Tips for planning the perfect family reunion-
DALLAS (July 6, 2006) – The summer is here, the kids are out of school and, all across the country, Black families are getting together to celebrate the rich history that holds them together! Family reunions are special times, designed to keep the extended family intact, bring generations together and have some old-fashioned fun.
For the fifth consecutive year, the EBONY Black Family Reunion Tour (EBFRT) is bringing African-American families together in seven cities across the United States for a free community event that includes exciting entertainment and lifestyle activities for the entire family.
For families who are planning their own reunions, EBFRT experts offer these tips to help ensure a successful event:
•Don’t Do it All Alone!
Why do all the work if someone is willing to do it for you? Contact your local Convention and Visitors Bureau. They are trained professionals who can offer assistance in planning your event. Let them put you in touch with hotels, dining and entertainment, parks and other attractions that may cater to your family’s needs.
•Check it Out!
Once you've come up with a plan, make sure it's viable for that time of year. It would be heartbreaking to find out a major attraction your family has planned to visit is closed on the big day. Often, a phone call can make the difference between joy and disappointment.
•Get Everyone Involved!
Get the younger generation involved! Whether it is dominoes or a good game of basketball, make sure your family has a list of activities to keep them entertained throughout the day.
•Capture the Moment!
Secure a photographer or someone at your reunion to be responsible for taking photos to capture the event. If you haven’t seen Aunt Mable in five years, it’s these photos that will help preserve the moment. You can also share the photos with generations to come!
•Have Fun!
This is your time and you should have the fun you deserve. After you’ve planned and made sure all the details were taken care of, enjoy the event. Sit back, relax and chill out with your family. It’s your party, so enjoy it!
