Black Coaches Association (BCA) to honor Al E. Dotson, Alonzo Mourning and Keith R. Tribble at Convention
Award recipients to be honored during the Images of Excellence Luncheon at BCA convention in Miami, Fl
According to Floyd Keith, BCA Executive Director, the Images of Excellence Award recognizes the accomplishments of community leaders who have influenced their communities and the lives of youth and student-athletes. Furthermore, the BCA Board of Directors seeks candidates who have gone above and beyond their call of duty to positively impact the lives of student-athletes and at-risk youth.
Albert E. Dotson is a man of the community. He serves as Chairman of the Board of Directors for the 100 Black Men of America and President of the Orange Bowl Committee and is respected by many. The organization, which is celebrating its 20th Anniversary, has goals and missions rooted in the community. Throughout the year, the organization hosts a variety of educational programs for youth in the African American community.
“I am sure I speak for Keith (Tribble), as well, when I say that this is truly a special honor,” said Dotson, who is also a partner with the Miami law firm of Bilzin Sumberg Baena Price & Axelrod LLP. “I want to thank Eugene Marshall (BCA President) and Floyd Keith (BCA Executive Director) for considering me as an Images of Excellence Award recipient.”
Alonzo Mourning is more than a talented, award-winning basketball player. He is also a community leader and a mentor. Founder of Alonzo Mourning Charities, Inc., Mourning is dedicated to help improve the lives of at-risk youth in the South Florida community. Since establishing the foundation, he has raised over $45 million for various organizations that are committed to helping at-risk youth.
Sports Illustrated recognized Keith R. Tribble, University of Central Florida Athletic Director and previous Orange Bowl Committee Chief Executive Officer, as one of the most respected figures in collegiate athletics. Tribble’s commitment to serving youth in the community is demonstrated by one of the missions of the FedEx Orange Bowl, which is to sponsor programs and events for under served youth in the community.
“I am honored to be recognized by the Black Coaches Association as a recipient of their annual Images of Excellence Award,” said Tribble, who is the outgoing Chief Executive Officer of the Orange Bowl Committee. “I have long been associated with the Black Coaches Association and its mission. Eugene (Marshall) and Floyd (Keith) have done so much in terms of advancement of African-Americans in the sports community that they too should be commended.”
The BCA convention will be held in Miami, Fl, from May 31 to June 3, 2006 at the Doral Golf Resort & Spa. Themed “Empowering our Leadership with Accountability & Action”, it will host an array of workshops that will echo the convention theme and will highlight interactive sessions on professional development, career advancement steps and personal upward mobility. BCA Images of Excellence tickets are free with convention registration or they can be purchased in advanced for $50 each. Awards Banquet tickets can be purchased at $50 each.
