NFL Miami Dolphins players dedicate time to assist with BCA Youth Development Sports Clinic, a free event
Black Coaches Association Youth Development Sports Clinic to be held at St. Thomas University in Miami, FL
The youth clinic is a free activity for student-athletes ages 6-13. Aimed to be a fun and informative event, the youth clinic provides the essential elements of sportsmanship values, character building and health and nutritional information to student-athletes.
“The youth clinic directly ties into our mission of giving back to the youth of America,” said Floyd Keith, BCA Executive Director. “We are sharing our expertise and probably, most importantly, we are allowing our youth the opportunity to see and interact with role models they can follow.”
Each year during the BCA National Convention and Expo, the BCA commits time to reach out to youth in the community by hosting a free Youth Development Sports Clinic, which is made possible by sponsorships from the Miami Dolphins © and Dolphin Stadium©.
“It is important that we look to empower our young people toward future greatness,” said Kennedy D. Wells, BCA Director of Membership. “Personal accountability is a major part of that path to greatness. The youth clinic is an opportunity to have fun, but ultimately the BCA wants to give the young people an opportunity to interact with positive role models like the coaches of the BCA.”
This year’s clinic will focus on teaching the fundamentals of basketball, football and tennis. Highlights of the clinic include special presentations made by Michael Hunt, assistant basketball coach at the University of Miami and BCA coaches and volunteers. In addition to the Miami Dolphins and Dolphin Stadium sponsorship, there will also be food provided by and courtesy of Burger King © and giveaway items provided by the National Collegiate Athletic Association, Russell Athletics ©, the Miami Dolphins © and more.
“The purpose of the Youth Clinic is to allow the members of the BCA to reach out to the young people of our communities through sports,” Wells said. “In addition, the BCA promotes maintaining a healthy lifestyle. The earlier the start we get, the better chance we have of reaping the long-term benefits of maintaining a healthy lifestyle. We (BCA) hope that the youth clinic participants of Miami will be inspired by the mentoring efforts of the coaches of our organization,” Wells said.
