100 Black Men of America, Inc. to Host Community Empowerment Project
The world’s leading mentoring and youth organization will host its annual CEP as a means of contributing socially and economically to the Atlanta community. The CEP will be held on Saturday, June 10th from 11 a.m. – 4 p.m. at the Georgia World Congress Center, Building A, 3rd and 4th Floor. The event is free and open to the public.
“We are working in partnership with the four Chapters in the metro-Atlanta area as well as local leadership to identify strategies for addressing a specific, emergent social need within the Atlanta community,” says Albert E. Dotson, Jr., Esq., Chairman of the Board for 100 Black Men of America, Inc.
“We are expecting more than 3,000 people of all ages including adults, parents, teachers, youth and faith-based groups, mentors, mentees, social and civic organizations, and collegiate students from the metropolitan Atlanta community. We strongly encourage everyone to attend the CEP and benefit from the many free exciting and educational events, such as the Physical and Financial Fitness Fairs, valued at over $1,000 per person!”
The Physical and Financial Fitness Fairs are designed to help families make better choices as it relates to their physical, mental, and financial health. Also included, will be a Teen Summit featuring a teen “Talk Back” forum sponsored by internationally acclaimed entertainer Ludacris and the Ludacris Foundation; and Celebrity Reading Circles hosted by national acclaimed actors, entertainers, and musicians to promote reading as a fundamental to academic excellence for children ages 5-12.
In addition, there will be Mentoring Training designed to provide intense training on effective strategies for cultivating and sustaining a healthy relationship between mentors and mentees.

Community Empowerment Project
This year’s CEP will include a culminating Celebrating our Legacy Program, designed to promote ongoing civic involvement. The Program will feature a keynote address by the incomparable Dr. William (Bill) Cosby and will also include a recognition ceremony honoring one of the nation’s greatest role models and mentors, the Honorable Maynard Jackson (posthumously). The legendary Dr. William H. Cosby will offer inspiring words of wisdom during the event, as newly trained mentors and youth take an Oath of Mentorship and an Oath of Excellence.
100 Black Men of America’s Community Empowerment Project is the living embodiment of the organization’s mission. Through the 100’s commitment to leadership and the four point thrusts: Mentoring, Education, Health and Wellness, and Economic Development, both social and economic deposits will be invested into the Atlanta community, as the host city of the 20th Annual Conference.
By means of the CEP, the 100, in partnership with Big Brothers Big Sisters, expects to screen, train and certify 200 new mentors for community organizations that have a waiting list of children in need of mentors. Prizes, gifts and incentives will also be given away to the 200 new mentors.
The Physical Fitness Fair will include health education, health screenings, and activities addressing adult and youth disparities such as obesity, heart disease, hypertension, diabetes, nutrition, physical activity, sickle cell, asthma, depression, HIV and other sexually transmitted diseases, along with healthy cooking demonstrations. All physical fitness fair activities are designed to promote sustained good health and nutrition. Conversely, the Financial Fitness Fair will involve workshops on debt management, credit worthiness, saving, investing, and homeownership.
Corporate and civic partners are rallied to provide monetary, in-kind, and volunteer support, thus bringing the community together in celebration, unity, and shared vision to execute the CEP. Sponsors of the CEP include Bellsouth, Wal-Mart, General Motors Corporation, Glaxo Smith Kline, U.S. Army, Home Depot., Wells Fargo, AARP and the Coca-Cola Company. Co-sponsors include American Red Cross, Ludacris Foundation and Prudential Financial.
