( BLACK PR WIRE) Last Saturday September 27 in Chicago, South Carolina native Jael Gadsden made her debut performance opening for her idol, hip hop superstar Common, at a special fund-raiser for the Common Ground Foundation, an organization dedicated to the empowerment and development of urban youth in the United States. Ms. Gadsden was the winner of the Lincoln Spotlight music contest, a nation-wide contest created by Common and luxury automaker Lincoln to search for the best and brightest aspiring lyricist. Judging was based on originality, verbal technique and visual sophistication.
Said Common, “ When I look at music, I look for something special and unique. I felt that her music possessed this quality; it had soul and she was coming from a true place. She got it.”
Said Gadsden, “ I wrote a song called Your Season which is about reaching higher and pursuing your dreams, the topic of this Lincoln Spotlight competition, and I won. This weekend, the performance and everything was a dream come true; I felt like a star. Thank you Lincoln. Thank you Common.”
Ms. Gadsden began her music career at the age of 12 performing at school, church, weddings, and community events in her hometown of Charleston, S.C.
