(BPRW) Saints Capture First Super Bowl Title for NFL Franchise and City of New Orleans
(BLACK PR WIRE/FLMU-MIAMI) – A city known as the birthplace of jazz and hometown of prominent African-American jazz musicians Louis Armstrong, Dizzy Gillespie and Winston Marsalis just became even more historic thanks to their hometown football team, the New Orleans Saints. Saints star quarterback Drew Brees and his teammates shocked the world when they defeated the Indianapolis Colts in Super Bowl XLIV at Sun Life Stadium in Miami.
Many fans expected NFL league MVP Peyton Manning to pull out a another fourth quarter comeback to capture the team’s second title in four years, but it was the Saints’ defense and their diehard fans who helped propel them to victory. The Saints fell behind early in the game and were down 10-0 to the Colts at the end of the first quarter. Yet, just like residents of New Orleans who stood strong after coping with Hurricane Katrina, the Saints battled back and showed how unified they are as a team.
It was only just four years ago that the city experienced one of the worst hurricane disasters in world history. Homes were flooded and many lives were lost. The Saints were all that the city had because they cared for the people and gave them a reason to cheer, even when things were unstable.
The world of sports throughout history has shown once again that even during challenging times, fans and people can come together. Super Bowl XLIV was not just a game that featured two of the best teams in the league competing for a championship. It was also a chance to acknowledge how one team played to bring hope, excitement and joy to a city that lost just about everything during Hurricane Katrina.
