MIAMI GOSPEL STATION IN THE RUN FOR MAJOR GOSPEL INDUSTRY AWARD

( January 9, 2007) Miami’s first African-American owned and operated radio station is the talk of the town yet again. After holding its own in rough radio waters in South Florida for close to twelve years, Gospel AM 1490 WMBM/New Birth Broadcasting Corporation is in the runs for a prestigious Stellar Award. The Stellar is one of the largest and most prominent gospel entertainment honors presented each year. The Stellar Awards, and its academy, SAGMA recently announced that Gospel AM 1490 WMBM has been selected as a finalist for the 2007 Stellar Radio Station of the Year Award.

Don Jackson, Chief Executive Officer of Central City Productions (producers of The Stellar Awards) said that the awards are presented to the “best of the industry” in various categories. The categories include: Album of the Year, Artist of the Year, Producer of the Year and others. The Radio Station of the Year Award pays tribute to gospel radio's role in the delivery of gospel music by acknowledging radio stations that have helped foster the steady increase in the appetite for gospel music. Al Hobbs, Coordinator for the Stellar Radio Station of the Year Award said “WMBM is a finalist in the LARGE MARKET radio category, based on their 2006 impact on gospel radio.”

Bishop Victor T. Curry, President/General Manager of WMBM said, “This is a testament to the work this staff does every day. I am honored and we are thrilled and humbled to be a finalist for a Stellar Award. This is not just about us; it’s about our listeners and the people that support us day after day and year after year. I am honored.”

The Stellar Awards will be held Saturday, January 13, 2007 at the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville, TN. Past Station of the Year Award winners have included WPGC, Maryland; WCAO, Massachusetts and WPZZ, Virginia. WMBM has previously been recognized for its trendsetting and creativity in gospel radio by the Religion and Media Quarterly, Miami New Times Newspaper, Inside Gospel and Gospel Today.
