(BPRW) FLORIDA MEMORIAL UNIVERSITY TO REOPEN ON MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 18TH

(Black PR Wire) MIAMI, FL – Upon the completion of a detailed and thorough review of all buildings regarding any damage from Hurricane Irma, officials from Florida Memorial University (FMU) have concluded it is safe to reopen the campus on Monday, September 18th.

“We are carefully surveying all of our facilities,” says David Jaccarino, Director of Facilities and Plant Operations at FMU. “And although Hurricane Irma generated significant debris, and the campus suffered the loss of many mature trees and other foliage, campus dorms and other critical facilities have been deemed safe.”

Much of the University’s administration and staff are reporting this week. This includes Information Management, campus grounds keeping, maintenance and security personnel. All are on-site managing Campus operations and handling debris removal. Remaining faculty and staff are returning as assigned throughout the week. Dormitories are set to reopen on Saturday, September 16th, and classes will resume on Monday at 8 AM. This will also include the University’s online services.

Florida Memorial University is located at 15800 NW 42nd Avenue in Miami Gardens, FL. It is accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools to award baccalaureate and masters degrees. The University is under the leadership of Interim President Michelle Howard-Vital. FMU is south Florida’s only Historically Black College and University (HBCU).
