(BPRW) Top UCSF Primary Care Leader Bets on Health Technology, Joins RubiconMD to Transform Primary Care

RubiconMD names Dr. J. Nwando Olayiwola as first Chief Clinical Transformation Officer

(Black PR Wire) NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--RubiconMD, a leader in specialty eConsults, announced the addition of J. Nwando Olayiwola, MD, MPH, FAAFP, to the company’s senior leadership team.

Dr. Olayiwola will join RubiconMD as its inaugural Chief Clinical Transformation Officer, responsible for helping primary care organizations using RubiconMD across the country transform their clinical delivery models to meet the demands of value-based care. Dr. Olayiwola will oversee the organization’s product implementation efforts, as well as its specialty network covering over 120 specialties and subspecialties.

Widely recognized as one of the nation’s leading experts on primary care transformation, Dr. Olayiwola is joining RubiconMD from the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) where she serves as the Director of the Center for Primary Care Excellence and as a practicing primary care physician at the Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital (ZSFG). She has published and presented extensively on the value of eConsults in enhancing primary care and optimizing the primary care-specialty care interface, in addition to providing advanced primary care workshops, trainings and lectures around the world. Prior to joining the faculty at UCSF, Dr. Olayiwola served as the Chief Medical Officer at Community Health Center Inc., the largest federally qualified health center in the State of Connecticut. While there, Dr. Olayiwola developed one of the earliest implementations of an eConsult program in the country. Since moving to UCSF, she has partnered with the Center for Innovation in Access and Quality, which manages one of the largest and most successful eConsult programs in the nation. Through this partnership, Dr. Olayiwola has supported numerous health systems across Northern California as they transition to eConsult platforms to support value-based care and has led key research on the impact of eConsults on the patient experience and other aspects of healthcare’s “quadruple aim.”

“Plans and practices across the country are struggling to find ways to efficiently meet the needs of their populations in this era of value-based care,” said RubiconMD CEO & Co-founder, Gil Addo. “Throughout her career, Dr. Olayiwola has been a leader in harnessing technology to increase access to care for underserved populations. It’s a privilege to work with someone so distinguished and talented who believes in our mission to democratize medical expertise.”

“Primary care is the foundation of any robust healthcare system,” said Dr. Olayiwola. “By focusing on the experience and needs of primary care providers, who are often the bridge to specialty care access for patients, RubiconMD has built a truly unique model with its eConsult program. Amidst so much anticipated change in healthcare today, particularly in Medicaid, the need and the opportunity to transform primary care through technology-enabled services are only going to expand. I couldn’t be more excited about joining RubiconMD to scale this important work across the country.”

Dr. Olayiwola received her undergraduate and medical degrees from The Ohio State University. She completed her residency in Family Medicine at Columbia Presbyterian in New York, NY. Following this, she completed her Masters in Public Health and a fellowship in Minority Health Policy at Harvard School of Public Health and Harvard Medical School, as a Harvard University Fellow. She is a board-certified family physician and Fellow of the American Academy of Family Physicians.

Fueling its growth, RubiconMD raised a Series A in 2016, led by Waterline Ventures and Alma Mundi Fund with participation from California Health Care Foundation, Dioko Health Ventures, health tech giant athenahealth and others.

Dr. Olayiwola will join RubiconMD full-time in March 2017.
