(BPRW) Airline Passengers Prepare for Screening

( BLACK PR WIRE) (FAMU-TALLAHASSEE) ( February 26, 2009) - - The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) has rigorous rules and regulations for passengers flying on commercial airlines.
TSA allows passengers to bring liquids and aerosols in their carry-on bags. These items can only be three ounces and need to be in a clear zip top bag. Prior to screening, these clear bags need to be placed in their own bin to be ready for examination on the conveyor belt.

In addition to those restrictions, passengers are not allowed to bring items on board such as golf clubs, baseball bats or hockey sticks. These items could be used as weapons and are prohibited on board.
Other objects that are also restricted are hammers and drills, but TSA does allow screwdrivers and wrenches that are seven inches or less.

“TSA has strict rules and if the passengers follow them correctly and have plenty of patience, then they should have an easy screening,” said Justin Robert, a Tallahassee TSA staff member. “Often people don’t realize the things that they can and can’t bring on board with them.”

Other items that are not allowed are any type of firearm, lighter fluid or fireworks. These items could cause for potential and harmful damage, Robert said.

“One time when I was flying home, I realized that I didn’t know all of the rules for flying and I accidentally held up the line,” said Ashley Jones, 20, a sophomore criminal justice major from Jacksonville. “I didn’t remove my laptop from my computer bag and I didn’t remove my shoes.”

Taking the steps to be prepared can save passengers a lot of time, according to Jones. She also believes that the passengers’ screening experience depends on how they would like for it to go.
“I have not had any major problem with TSA, but I have had to go through additional screening,” said James McCoy, 18, a freshman business student from Miami.
