(Black PR Wire) Every September, National Suicide Prevention Awareness Month reminds us of the importance of breaking the silence and opening conversations about mental health. Suicide affects people of all ages and across every community. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), more than 49,000 people died by suicide in 2023. This is a reminder that suicide is a national crisis we can’t ignore. Increasing awareness helps break down barriers that make it harder for individuals to seek help.
Talking about suicide can open the door to healing and when we create safe spaces where people feel heard without judgement, it can bring comfort and hope during difficult times. This month is the perfect time to prioritize mental wellness, community support, and resilience so that we can break down stigma and foster a culture of compassion.
There are many resources available for anyone who may be struggling or knows someone in need of help, such as:
- Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA)
- National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI)
- American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP)
This month and every month, let us all continue to uplift one another and ensure no one suffers in silence. Always remember, you are not alone.
