(Black PR Wire) MIAMI, FL — Join editors Shanelle Matthews and Marzena Zukowska, along with guest moderator Valencia Gunder, for the Miami stop of Liberation Stories: Building Narrative Power for 21st Century Social Movements, the first-ever anthology written by and for social justice communicators.
This in-person event will feature a participatory conversation about the power of narrative in organizing, live readings from the book, and reflections on the six-year process of creating this groundbreaking work.
Attendees will explore how movements are using strategy, storytelling, and culture to fight for a just and liberated future.
About the Moderator:
Valencia Gunder, a multi-generational resident of Miami’s Liberty City neighborhood, is co-director of The Smile Trust, executive director of The Black Collective and The Freedom Lab, and founder of the Community Emergency Operations Center -- all of which reach across the US South and the Caribbean from their headquarters in Liberty City.
About the Co-Editors:
Shanelle Matthews is the founder of the Radical Communicators Network, former communications director for the Movement for Black Lives, and a Distinguished Lecturer at City College at the City University of New York.
Marzena Zukowska is an organizer and narrative strategist who co-founded the immigrant rights organization POMOC. They are the former media director for the National Domestic Workers Alliance and have led narrative work for movements across the United States, the United Kingdom, and Europe.
About the Book:
Liberation Stories brings together some of the most influential progressive communicators, organizers, artists, journalists, and scholars of our time. The book features case studies and reflections that offer practical tools for those shaping culture and building movements.
As far-right movements attack our books, our communities, and our democracy, Liberation Stories offers a blueprint for resistance and a vision for what is possible when we lead with strategy, care, and courage.
About Radical Communicators Network:
RadComms is a community of practice for movement communicators who are building narrative power to advance justice and liberation for all.
